Information about fifth largest city of India Ahmedabad City

Ahmedabad is the fifth largest city of India located in Gujarat state. It is also called as Karnavati. Gujarat High Court has its seat in Ahmedabad so it is the judicial capital of the state. The city has been rated as the fastest-growing city in India and at third place in the world by Forbes magazine in 2010. Former capital of Gujarat is now its financial capital and it is the most important city of this region. The city is situated on the side of River Sabarmati. It is Ahmedabad District’s administrative centre.
Sultan Ahmed Shah founded it on February 26, 1411 and it was named after him. A military cantonment was established in the city during British rule and it was incorporated into the Bombay Presidency. Its infrastructure was modernized and expanded during British rule. Textile industries were established here and it got a nickname as ‘Manchester of the East’. People of the city participated enthusiastically in independence movement. Population of the city is increasing day by day and construction sector is booming there.
Many education and research institutions, Information technology and scientific industries have been established in the city and the place is good to get higher education. Ahmedabad city is Gujarat’s cultural and commercial heart.
Many foreign companies have established their sales office in the city. Chemical and Pharmaceutical industries are also based in the city. It supplies denim and exports gemstone, jewellery in India at large scale.
Looking at the history of Ahmedabad, it was known that rulers of different dynasties such as Solanki, Vaghela, Sultanate of Delhi, Muzaffarid, Mughals and Marathas have ruled over the city before it went under the control of British East India Company. When Mughal rulers were ruling over the city, its textiles were exported to Europe and one of its rulers Shahjahan sponsored the construction of Moti Shahi Mahal. Marathas introduced girl child education during their control over the city.
The city became important junction in the traffic and trade between northern and southern India when a railway link between Ahmedabad and Mumbai was established. Many people migrated from rural area so that they could get work in textile mills.
The city is also famous for participating in the Indian independence movement, Kochrab Ashram near Paldi and Satyagraha Ashram near River Sabarmati were established by Mahatma Gandhi to support the Independence movement.
Beautiful combination of classical and colonial European style can be seen in the buildings of the city.
Climate of the city is extremely dry except monsoon season. It also receives less rain than required for its climate.
The city has large number of maintained gardens and few of the famous gardens are Bal Vatika, Victoria Garden, Law Garden, Parimal Garden, Lal Darwaja Garden etc.. Ahmedabad is internationally honoured with ‘Green City Commendation Award’.
Kankaria and Vastrapur are two lakes exist here. Kankaria is an artificial lake.
The city has many historical monuments such as Bhadra Fort, Dada Hari Vav, Jhulta Minar, Sarkhej Roza, Teen Darwaja which attracts the tourist from all over the world.

It has a cricket stadium which can accommodate 54,000 people and it also has golf courses.
People belonging to different casts and religions lives here because they moved to the city from all over India due to getting work. People celebrates Navratri, Deepavali, Ganesh Chaturthi, Holi, Eid ul-Fitr and Christmas etc.
Many government and private hospitals are available in the city which provides best healthcare to the citizens.

There are many foods which people of Ahmedabad eats but typical Gujarati thali which includes roti, dal, rice, shaak, curry, roasted papads and pickles is famous. Few good restaurants serve Mughlai non-vegetarian food.
The city is well connected from other cities of India by air, road and railways.
It has also witnessed violent clashes among the people of different castes, protests against corruption and was also affected with earthquake and bomb blasts over the periods of time.
Air, water and soil pollution has been increased in the city due to neighbouring industrial area in recent years.
