Aurangabad Maharashtra

Aurangabad city exists in Maharashtra state of India and it is an important city of the state. World heritage sites Ajanta and Ellora caves exists in the city so many tourists come to visit this place from India and all over the world. It was founded in 1610 and it was Maughal Emperor Aurangzeb’s dream destination. Maharashtra has four important cities and Aurangabad is one of them.

The city is developing speedily but it still has got hold of its tradition, past glory and heritage.

Those who visits Aurangabad, they are able to see carvings done in Ajanta and Ellora caves which takes the person back in 2nd century BCE when Pratishtanapura was established as the capital of Satavahana rulers. During this period monasteries were carved and paintings were made in Ajanta caves. Seeing the carvings of Ellora caves one can get the information about three main religions Buddhism, Hinduism and Jainism.

Many dynasties belonging to different cultures, religions and communities have ruled over the city and their different mark can be seen in the city.

Malik Ambar, prime minister of Murtaza Nizam Shah II founded Aurangabad in 1610 and earlier it was named as ‘Khirki’ and declared as a capital. But later on when region went into the hand of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan and he appointed his son Aurangzeb as the governor of this town then he named it Aurangabad. During Aurangzeb’s period, the city flourished from all aspects such a culture, art, architecture etc.

Many huge gates except Bharkal were built in the region and now only thirteen gates have survived. A replica of the Taj-Mahal, the ‘Bibi-ka-Maqbara’ was built by Aurangzeb’s son for giving tribute to his mother Begam Rabia Durani, that ancient structure is a masterpiece of Mughal architecture. Aurangzeb had many battles with Marathas when he was emperor. After the death of Aurangzeb, his empire ended.

Like other cities of India, Aurangabad too faces the three main seasons such as Winter, Summer and Monsoon. Its climate is Temperate Climate.

Though mostly people in Aurangabad speak Marathi language but Hindi, Urdu and English languages are also used by people living there.

All transportation facilities are available in the city. It is well connected with other cities of India by Rail, Air and Road. Aurangabad is situated between the centre of Maharashtra and Goa. All the important cities of Maharashtra are only situated at the distance of 500 km from Aurangabad.

Many Indian companies have been established in the city.

For the safety of the tourists who wants to go for sightseeing at Ajanta, Ellora, Daultabad, Paithan, Bibi-Ka-Muqbara, Pan-Chakki or other interesting places in Aurangabad MSRTC (Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation) buses are made available from Central Bus Stand. They are safe to use.

Metered Auto-Rickshaws are also available in the city for sightseeing but one should be able to negotiate about the charges because drivers generally wish to charge extra from the tourists. One can also book Taxi according to their need.

Ajanta Caves, Ellora Caves, Ghrishneshwar temple, Bibi ka Maqbara A replica of the Taj Mahal, Panchakki, Aurangabad Caves, Soneri Mahal, Daulatabad Fort, History Museum, Chatrapati Shivaji Museum, Lonar, Paithan, Gautala Wildlife Sanctuary etc. are the important tourists places in Aurangabad which one must see during their visit in the city.
